I'm back, with LOTS to report. We had a grand trip to NY to see the great-grands and many friends and relatives. Alex was a good sport and thrived during his three weeks on the road.
Once back home, he promptly forgot everything he knew about sleeping through the night. After two weeks of this regression, we supposed that he was perhaps hungry for more than Mommy's able to give him and we started him on rice cereal two weeks ago. Alex has now added sweet potatoes, oatmeal, avocado, and green beans to his menu and seems to thoroughly enjoy them all. In fact, he's taken to solids so well and eagerly that I tend to skimp on the water a bit and give him a nice hearty puree. He likes it -- and it's easier to feed him!
Alex is sporting a lower right tooth, the left partner soon to follow. It surfaced last Friday. He's been good to me so far, but in honesty, it's the top teeth I fear. His tongue covers the bottom ones nicely. Overall, he's been in excellent spirits through the certain discomfort.
Monday night we first noticed that he rolled back-to-front without assistance. He's still not adept at flipping front-to-back when he gets frustrated on his tummy.
Tuesday, after his first trip to Indianapolis and a mall, he graduated from the infant tub to the inflatable duck tub, and though Mom and Dad wish it fit in the kitchen sink, Alex LOVED kicking and splashing. He kept grabbing his legs in wonder. It's such fun to watch his magical moments of discovery.
Last night, the boys went to the store -- without me! That marks the first time they've gone anywhere as a twosome, and save a bout of fussiness at the meat counter, Alex was generally well-behaved for Daddy. Daddy learned that he should have a toy in reserve at all times. I made good progress on my latest project (see below).
This morning was the first time I saw him grab for his foot while playing on the floor. He held it a while, but didn't try to maneuver it to his mouth.
I feel like there's a milestone I'm missing....
Though still generally content to be on his back, he would much prefer to stand. This actually is making it difficult to teach him to sit up, as he seldom settles for that compromise position. Lately, he's been a better sport about being propped up or sitting in one of his chairs. I think he's realizing that it's easier to play with things when you're upright.
In my spare (ha!) time, I've been knitting! I'm just making some dishcloths (which I don't even like to use) because they're small projects and thus easily managed and completed around Alex's schedule. I found several fun patterns that I'm excited to try. Currently, I'm practicing knitting with three colors. Hooray!
